User Guide

In partnership with PQMD (Partnership For Quality Medical Donations), the Americares forum is an interactive web platform facilitating a community where Americares Medical Outreach partners can share practical information about relevant topics. The Americares Medical Outreach Forum allows volunteer medical providers to share expertise and discuss best practices for performing surgeries, primary care, responding to emergencies, and strengthening local health care capacity. All content is curated by Americares leadership, its members and in cooperation with PQMD.

Who is eligible to participate in Americares Medical Outreach Web Forum?

Volunteer medical providers or their primary contacts who have requested products and/or completed an application for Americares Medical Outreach Program.

You’ve been approved! Next steps? Please upload a profile photo!

Hover over your name in the right corner of the site to see options for your profile. Go down to ‘Profile’ and click on ‘Change Profile Photo’. You can then either upload a photo or take a photo.

After you upload a profile photo, please set your email notifications.

Notifications are very important. They indicate when a discussion is taking place, allowing you to be an active participant. Go down to ‘Settings’ and click on ‘Email’. On this page you can select ‘yes’ or ‘no’ for various types of notifications. **Don’t forget to save your changes at the bottom of the screen!

What is the difference between the ‘Announcements’ and the ‘Discussion Forum’?

The ‘Announcements’ section is a ‘live feed’ that will indicate when new members have joined etc. Members will not be notified of posts in this section, therefore, it is not the place to engage in discussions.

The ‘Discussion Forum’ is where discussions take place. Here you will find different topics posted. For example, ‘Introductions’, ‘Organizational Needs’, ‘Upcoming Conferences’ etc. You can also create your own topic too! Members will be notified of posts.

A discussion form is interactive in nature, allowing individuals to learn from each other. In a discussion forum, you can respond to a post by adding your thoughts and additional content, or create your own topic.

How do I post a discussion?

‘JOIN THE DISCUSSION FORUM HERE’ is the yellow box in the right hand column on the main page (shown in image above). Click to enter. Here you can click on a topic of interest, type in the blank box and hit submit.

You can also create a new topic by scrolling to the bottom of the screen. Enter a topic title, add your discussion, click the ‘notify me of follow-up replies via email’ box and then hit submit!
